What Are Good Activities for a 3 Yr Old During March and So on in NY?
Question by Miko: What are good activities for a 3 yr old during March and so on in NY?
Hi guys :)
I have a three year old brother that kinda turned into a couch potato already :( I really want him to get active and invigorated in some way because I turned from childhood tv junkie into a college couch potato. I kinda was hoping for some fun and (cheap) creative ideas. Maybe a website might help or even your experience (I’d really like that). Anything like easy outdoor games that keep him interested because you know how that goes (he’s finds the mud more interesting if bored). And fun indoor games that involve creativity and evoke some brain cells to bounce around. I guess I’m asking for parenting advice because I want him to have an easy time when he gets to kindergarten. My community is pretty “well-off” and really takes education highly and manages to really give a lot of opportunities in life and education for their kids; which I appreciate. I was a socially awkward kid and my parents, they are wonderful, don’t socialize a lot either. We don’t know a lot of people with young children aside from my aunt that visits us with her kids like once or twice a month. Anyway I just want my brother to feel comfortable about meeting others and suggestions would be great; oh he goes to a preschool but I don’t want to be awkward and say to the parents your kid and my brother should be friends…Hellooo. I guess I want him to develop his self esteem and tell him “hey it’s ok to be yourself especially now when your a kid.” This was a really tough life lesson for me to learn and I hope my brother can learn to laugh at himself a little. This is kinda an awkward entry but I’m ready for the challenge and I hope my parents too. My brother is a sweet kid and I just want him to be at ease with himself, he genuinely has a beautiful smile and eyes that really light up and some poop humor (why do kids always have to laugh about poop?). I was thinking about passing my interests to him like art and reading and music. Music is lovely and I would like to know some ways I can incorporate it in his life… like patting some drums or dancing or whatever.
Right now I enjoy reading to him at night sometimes and he really likes it and says the cutest things like “I wanna be a princess…I wanna be a king.” I do little things I can but Barny and American Idol are such good babysitters, ha ha.
Thank you guys for reading this; I honestly would accept any kinda response…but don’t get lazy (just kidding). My brother is really wonderful and I don’t want his memories of childhood to be Elmo’s giggles.. however cute they may be (not dissing Elmo). Life is really beautiful and doing the same thing every day at home can be boring for my brother.

I use www.familyfun.go.com. It is a great resource with crafts, baking projects, games etc. Other than that why don’t you try to sign him up for a music class or another activity or sport? That would be the best way to expose him to new people. Once he starts to play with another child at the activity, you could casually mention to the child’s parents about having a play date and see what the response is.
Museums, libraries, indoor play spaces etc. are all great places for him to go to socialize and learn.

Great toy! Kind of cheaply made.,
These astrojax are a lot of fun. They are somewhat challenging to get going, but they are mesmerizing once they work.
Two problems with them:
1) They are made of a hard plastic that will break eventually. I don’t know why they didn’t use a softer material with more bounce.
2) The electronics are janky. It is hard to turn the lights on and off. WAY harder than it should be.
I took away one star for each problem.

|Disappointed with the Disco,
I bought this as a stocking stuffer for my 10 year old son. As a previous reviewer noted, it is a bit tricky to turn on the lights. But once I learned the process, I discovered that lights on ball # 1 did not work at all. Furthermore, the disco lights on balls #2 and #3 did not work. Very disappointing. I would not recommend this toy since it does not fulfill its claims.

|A fun toy.,
Astrojax are a lot of fun and easy to master. It’s small so it’s very portable and you can take it anywhere. It lets you be creative and make up your own tricks or you can spend some time mastering the “official” tricks. If you visit the US Astrojax website you can even purchase special edition balls to create your own toy or buy cool things to tune up the Jax you already own.
